Cambodia ranks among the poorest countries in the world, still healing from the deep wounds left by years of conflict and the brutal Khmer Rouge era. Progress is happening, but poverty remains a harsh everyday reality—especially in the countryside.

Here’s the tough truth:

• Around 90% of people living below the poverty line call rural areas home.
• One in three Cambodians lacks access to clean drinking water.
• Every year, 10,000 children under five lose their lives due to unsafe water and poor sanitation.
• Over 60% of the population faces seasonal food shortages.
• More than 70% of rural families don’t have a toilet in their home.

The challenges are enormous, but so is the hope. The Apsara foundation is dedicated to empowering families in rural Cambodia to build brighter futures. We put children front and center—because every child deserves a safe, healthy start in life.
